Automotive ADAS

In smart vehicle applications, radar serves as the “eyes” for environmental perception. By precisely detecting the position, speed, distance, and motion trajectories of surrounding objects—such as vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles—it provides critical data support for autonomous driving decision-making and driving safety.

Typical applications

BSD Blind Spot Detection

BSD Blind Spot Detection

In automotive Blind Spot Detection (BSD) systems, millimeter-wave radar can precisely detect objects behind and to the rear sides of a vehicle, providing information such as speed, distance, and angle to enable blind-spot warnings and assist drivers. Compared with cameras or ultrasonic sensors, radar offers advantages including all-weather operation, long-range detection, and strong anti-interference capabilities. Widely used in two-wheeled vehicles, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and autonomous driving vehicles, radar is a critical core component for enhancing driving safety.

Advantages

All-weather perception

All-weather perception

Remains stable in detection performance regardless of adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, dust, or strong light.
All-weather perception
Long-distance recognition

Long-distance recognition

The precise detection range can reach tens of meters, enabling early capture of target information from distant locations on the sides and rear of vehicles.
Long-distance recognition
Real-time alert

Real-time alert

Once the rear vehicle is detected approaching the blind spot, an immediate warning can be issued to the driver to avoid the risk of collision.

Automatic filtering

Automatic filtering

It can effectively eliminate reflection interference caused by surfaces such as the ground and metal objects.

The radar can cover the traditional blind spots in the vehicle’s side and rear areas—areas typically within 10 to 100 meters from the mirrors—accurately detecting vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and other objects within these blind zones. This helps prevent scrapes and collisions caused by drivers changing lanes rashly because they simply “can’t see” what’s happening around them. Compared to relying on the driver’s experience and “turning their head to look,” radar actively monitors the dynamics of blind spots, especially in scenarios where a following vehicle is rapidly approaching at high speeds. It can provide early warnings, compensating for the limitations of human reaction time.

Unaffected by light or weather conditions—whether it's severe weather such as heavy rain, blizzards, or dense fog, or challenging nighttime lighting conditions and alternating light-and-dark scenarios in tunnels—the radar’s microwave signals have strong penetrating power, ensuring that monitoring accuracy remains consistent even under adverse conditions. This approach avoids the common issues faced by traditional vision-based BSD systems (such as camera-based solutions), which are prone to being obstructed by dust, affected by strong glare, or rendered ineffective in low-light conditions. As a result, it guarantees stable performance in all kinds of road conditions, making it particularly well-suited for regions with heavy snowfall in the north and frequent rainfall in the south.

Supports “Distance-Based Alerting”: When a target in the blind spot is relatively far away, the system only uses an in-vehicle indicator light to issue a warning. However, when the target rapidly approaches and there’s a risk of collision, the system simultaneously activates steering wheel vibration or side-seat pushers, providing haptic feedback to reinforce the alert and prevent the single visual warning from being overlooked. The alert response time is exceptionally fast—typically ≤0.5 seconds—shortening the time it takes for the driver to detect a blind-spot target via the rearview mirror by 1–2 seconds, thus leaving more reaction time for emergency evasive maneuvers, making it particularly suitable for high-speed driving scenarios.
