Smart Lighting

Precise sensing—say goodbye to “ineffective lighting.” At the heart of radar’s application in lighting is intelligent interconnection: by sensing the movement of people and objects, the lighting system achieves automated control—lights turn on when someone enters the room and turn off when the person leaves. Essentially, this endows lighting with a “sensing brain.”

Smart Applications for Garage Lighting

Radar chips offer several advantages in garage networked lighting systems, including high precision, low false triggers, and strong anti-interference capabilities. They can accurately detect the movement of people and vehicles, enabling automatic lighting activation, delayed dimming, and zone-based coordinated control. Compared to traditional infrared solutions, radar sensors provide faster response times, broader coverage, and greater stability, making them well-suited for complex environments such as underground parking garages. This significantly enhances the intelligence level and energy-saving performance of lighting systems, helping to create safe and efficient smart lighting solutions.

On-demand dynamic lighting significantly reduces energy consumption costs.

On-demand dynamic lighting significantly reduces energy consumption costs.

The radar can precisely detect the movement trajectories of both people and vehicles within the garage, illuminating only the areas where activity is taking place—a “predictive lighting” approach. For example, when a vehicle enters a driveway, the radar automatically triggers the illumination of the area ahead in advance, eliminating the need to wait. When no vehicles or pedestrians are present, the system automatically switches to a low-brightness standby mode, thereby avoiding the energy waste associated with traditional 24-hour continuous lighting. Typically, this can reduce lighting energy consumption by 40% to 60%.
Eliminate lighting blind spots and enhance pedestrian comfort.

Eliminate lighting blind spots and enhance pedestrian comfort.

Compared to infrared sensors, which are easily obstructed and affected by temperature and humidity, radar sensors offer a longer detection range and superior penetration capability. They can effectively cover traditional lighting blind spots such as garage corners, the inner sides of parking spaces, and the ends of passageways. Moreover, these sensors intelligently adjust brightness according to the specific scene, “anticipating” when to turn on the lights to prevent scratches and collisions caused by insufficient illumination, while balancing practicality with visual comfort.
Simplify maintenance management and reduce operational labor costs.

After radar and lighting are networked, the system can monitor the operational status of each luminaire in real time (such as brightness, faults, and energy consumption). Once a luminaire is damaged or an abnormality is detected, the system automatically triggers an alarm and precisely locates the fault’s position—eliminating the need for manual, individual inspections and significantly reducing maintenance workload. The system supports remote centralized control, enabling managers to adjust lighting modes—from boosting brightness during peak hours to activating energy-saving modes at night—via the backend without requiring on-site operations. This feature is particularly well-suited for managing large commercial parking garages or chains of multi-unit residential parking facilities.
Integrate security scenarios and strengthen emergency preparedness.

Integrate security scenarios and strengthen emergency preparedness.

In the event of emergencies such as a garage fire or power outage, the radar system can coordinate with fire and security equipment to automatically switch the lighting to emergency mode, prioritizing the illumination of evacuation routes and safety exits to guide people to evacuate quickly.

Recommended Chips

AT58MP1T1RA (AT5810E)

Operates in the 5.8 GHz ±75 MHz frequency band, featuring highly integrated microwave transceiver, intermediate-frequency signal processing and filtering, and a built-in digital phase-locked loop (PLL). The chip incorporates an adaptive calibration algorithm that effectively addresses issues such as co-channel interference, out-of-band blocking, and environmental interference. The sensing time and distance are flexibly adjustable. It supports the standard I2C interface, enabling flexible compatibility with various MCUs and host control platforms.

AT58MP1T1RD (AT5812)

Operating in the 5.8 GHz ± 75 MHz frequency band, this fully integrated microwave sensor chip features ultra-low power consumption (9 mA) and adopts an ultra-low-power architecture. The chip integrates a signal processor internally, enabling it to directly output sensing control signals. With just a few external components, it can easily form a complete microwave sensing sensor. This chip solution is the preferred choice for upgrading and replacing traditional non-fixed-frequency solutions, as well as the optimal option for reducing costs in conventional 5.8 GHz microwave sensing applications.
